Admit it or not, we all want to meet our soulmate. That deep inside, we believe that there’s these only one person just for us to love.. wholeheartedly.
But what really is a soulmate? How do we know when we found the One?
The term "soulmate" was first mentioned in the trance messages given by the American psychic Edgar Cayce in the early ’30s. He was the first to explain the term in the context of life cycles and karma. According to Cayce, soulmates develop over a series of many lifetimes lived together.
He defines a soulmate as a soul who complements and assists another as the "torque to the groove, the tenon to the mortise." Famed astrologer Linda Goodman calls it "the other half or yourself whose personal aura blends harmoniously with yours."
From the above definition, we can conclude that soulmates are two souls who become so close together in a series of incarnations that they perfectly complement each other in their journey through series of lives. And when they do meet again on earth, they will surely recognize each other, for the soul never forgets.
Aristophanes mentioned the concept of perfect partners in his dialogue The Symposium written some 300 years before Christ. He said that , in the beginning, human beings were androgynous giants who possessed both sexes in one individual. They become so powerful that they even challenged the gods in Olympus. To weaken them, the god Zeus sliced each of them into two, thereby, creating male and female. From then on, each is looking for the other half to complete itself and become strong again.
And when one of them meets with his other half, the actual half of himself, the pair are lost in amazement of love and friendship and intimacy , and one will not be out of the other’s sight even for a moment.
That when you meet the “right type” of person for you, you will give up everything to be with that singular and perfect partner of yours. That no other person will satisfy you.
So what happens when soulmates meet? Here’s how Linda Goodman, in her book Love Signs describes the event: “Its sometimes happens that a man and woman meet and instantly recognize the other half of themselves behind the eyes of the other… Even their voices are familiar to each other’s ears, like a remembered chord of music.
Almost from the first moment they meet and gaze upon each other, their spirits rush together in joyful recognition, ignoring all convention and custom, all social rules of behavior, drawn by an inner knowing too overwhelming to be denied. Inexplicably, often without a word being spoken, they know that only through each other can they hope to find wholeness, only when they’re together can they both be complete in every way.
So, have you found your soulmate?
